BOP 24 Photobook Festival

Martin Parr Foundation, 316 Paintworks, Bristol, BS4 3AR

19 – 20 October 2024

Free event

Join us in Bristol for BOP (Books on Photography), the annual photobook festival hosted by the Martin Parr Foundation and The Royal Photographic Society.

BOP 24 boasts a wide-ranging group of photobook publishers, artist talks, exhibitions, book signings, events, street food, coffee and local beer.

We Feed The UK will showcase the work of two award-winning photographers we commissioned to capture tales of agroecology in action.

Agroecology photobook

Detailing the magic of The Penpont Project in Wales, Andy Pilsbury released a run of handmade books with Out Of Place Books. Aelwyd encapsulates the intergenerational and inter-species collaboration that embodies Penpont Estate, with photographs from across the seasons alongside maps and secret compartments to be filled with materials gathered from the land.

Aaron Schuman‘s loose-leaf photographic book, Heft, is a bold and unique creation, published by GRAIN Projects. Inspired by the rich sense of belonging (or ‘Heft’) sheep or cattle can feel to a piece of land, each reader is encouraged to dismantle, rearrange, and put back the pages in a new way to find their own innate sense of belonging and ‘heft’ within both the book, and the nature of Fordhall Organic Farm documented in its pages.

This event is your chance to meet both Andy and Aaron, who will be hosting book signings across the weekend.

We Feed The UK will also be displaying our well-loved Pop-Up Portraits travelling exhibition. When foraging for our ten flagship stories, we assembled a pop-up portrait studio at various agroecology stomping grounds to collect the smiles and tales of those changing the face of UK farming. The results paint a picture of an inspiring grassroots movement, deep-rooted and radical-minded.

The event is open from 10:00 – 19:00 on Saturday 19 October and 10:00 – 16:00 on Sunday 20 October. Entry to the festival is free, with no booking required.
