Cultivating Equality: Exhibition Launch

Street Level Photoworks, Trongate 103, Glasgow

27 April 2024 3-5pm

Join us for the launch of We Feed The UK’s Scottish story at Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow. Photography by Sophie Gerrard and live poetry from Iona Lee will celebrate the women breaking ground to nourish Scotland’s community, human and more-than-human.

Lauriston Farm is a 100-acre site near Edinburgh run by a majority-women workers cooperative, as a local response to the lack of affordable, healthy food.

Over the hills, Nikki Yoxall collaborates with native cattle to restore the species-rich, carbon-sequestering pasture in decline across the Cairngorms.

Their stories are positive urban and rural solutions to global issues of climate change, food security and biodiversity loss.

Sons inherit Scottish farms 85% of the time, yet over half of the UK’s family farm workers are women. The Scottish government’s own Women in Agriculture Taskforce concluded that their contribution to the sector can be “undervalued, downplayed or simply unseen”. Let’s change the face of farming.
